I had originally purchased the fabric for a skirt but had a momentary lapse of brain power and didn't buy enough, so it sat in my fabric box for months. I had to decide what to do with it as it had got to the point that my fabric stash was out of control and oddments were prowling around the place in every room, like little fabric wild beasties (that needed taming). So when making my decision, and knowing there simply wasn't enough for any type of skirt, I went for a blouse. I used an original 1950's pattern which I have only used once before and have decided never to use again. I do not like the pattern, I kept having mishaps due to my difficulty in following it and I'm not even sure I really like the end result. I do though, adore the fabric as it has budgies upon it.
Due to my back, I couldn't use my sewing machine so it was all hand sewn (which was bad enough). Sorry for the small pictures but it was the best I could do and I know that had I not used these, then it would have taken me an age to get around to posting.

LOVE the fabric. I've got a dress with budgies on.

You have? How lovely x
DeleteHand sewn? Good god woman, you are amazing. I think the blouse looks lovely. 10 out of 10!
ReplyDeleteThank you Loo xxx
DeleteI love the budgie fabric - it makes a great blouse.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteOooh, it has BUDGIES! That is just too fun! It looks lovely to me even if you are not totally keen!x
ReplyDeleteBudgies on clothes is always a winner with me and thank you xx
DeleteThat fabric is so delightfully cute and charming! Wonderful blouse, dear Melanie! (I tend to hand sew what little sewing I do, too, and can completely relate.)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a marvelous Monday & week ahead,
♥ Jessica
Thank you Jessica xxx
DeleteI already have my next project cut (the jacket) but think I shall have to use the machine for that one.
The print is just lovely, and you have made such a sweet little blouse. And all by hand? Well done you! xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you .. I didn't intend to do the whole thing by hand, I sort of fell into it xxx
DeleteSo glad you could use the fabric! Very annoying when one realizes one hasn't bought enough for a planned project. Its a beautiful green and I am very impressed you did the entire thing by hand!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was so sure I had enough too, I spent a good while working it out :)
DeleteSuch a cute blouse!!! :D
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteThe fabric is very cute, lots of Ikea fabric is far too much fun to confine to cushions and curtains! It's a shame you're not happy with the pattern, especially when you've spent lots of time on it. Hand sewn? Respect to you! I have some Alexander Henry bird fabric that I really must make into something soon x
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteI adore Scandinavian design and Ikea do some lovely fabrics, but most are just too heavy to use for anything BUT curtains unfortunately. I just googled 'alexander henry bird fabric' and some lovely designs came up xx
That fabric is gorgeous Melanie and I'm very impressed by the fact that you've hand sewn this blouse. I think it looks really pretty and summery so maybe you'll feel happier with it when the weather's better instead of this shivery winter weather. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Joan xxx
DeleteI love the fabric but the actual blouse, well it leaves me rather lukewarm. I suppose I'm not much of a blouse person.
You made that beautiful blouse BY HAND?!! I'm in awe. I love the fabric and it fits you so nicely, what a shame you're not completely bowled over.
ReplyDeleteHere's to a year of happier makes, I hope to start something this weekend, it's been too long! x
Thank you and I did, yes, (somehow) though not by design it just happened that way :) I think it's the collar that is bothering me, I might just take it off, I don't think I'll ever get the hang of them. I look forward to seeing your weekend make xxx
